Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is alerting customers that the Driver Services facility at 2701 S. Dirksen Pkwy. in Springfield will close for major renovations beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 2 and will remain closed for 24 to 36 months.
In the meantime, a temporary Driver Services facility located at 1650 Wabash Ave. in Springfield will open Monday, February 6, and will provide the same services to the public that had been available at the Dirksen facility. These services include: the issuance of driver’s licenses, ID cards and instruction permits; license plate sticker renewals; and title and registration services.
The temporary facility at 1650 Wabash Ave., which is comparable in size to the Dirksen Pkwy. facility, will be open Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to the temporary Driver Services facility at 1650 Wabash Ave., the Secretary of State’s Klein and Mason facility ─ located at 316 N. Klein St. in Springfield ─ will continue to provide Driver and Vehicle services as well. The Klein and Mason facility is open Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Secretary Giannoulias is also encouraging customers to conduct business online at ilsos.gov. He is committed to expanding online services as part of his vision to modernize the Secretary of State’s office, and he reminds customers that they can purchase license plate stickers online, as well as obtain a duplicate driver’s license (when lost or stolen), order a driver record, or renew eligible driver’s licenses and ID cards.
The renovation of the Dirksen Pkwy. facility includes a complete overhaul of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The Capital Development Board has provided the funding and authorization for this renovation.
